Skill + 1up

This post is Day 2 of the knit and crochet blog week.
Today's Topic: Look back over your last year of projects and compare where you are in terms of skill and knowledge of your craft to this time last year. 2kcbwday2
As a knitting teacher I feel like I am always on the fast track of learning and perfecting skills. My students keep me moving forward at a fast pace. They are forever finding new things they want to learn to do and I can never say no.
Last year we did a year of "color" and I had classes for fair-isle,
double knitting,
and Mosaic knitting.
Although I already knew how to do these techniques, teaching them makes me develop an understanding of what is really happening and how to explain what I am doing.
What is the saying:
If you want to really know how to do something, teach it.
Boy is that ever true.
What is the most challenging part of teaching?
I find it is gauging the difficulty of a project. Knowing my students helps a lot. Yet, I think I err too often thinking something is easier then it really is. I want my students to be able to finish their projects with some level of struggle but never to the point of total frustration. I am not always successful with that.
Luckely my students are very forgiving and patient with me in this regaurd and I always spend what time it takes to get them through a project.
How do you know you are a better teacher then before?
Answer: Your students don't need you any more.
Hmmmm, maybe I need a different goal!

Gorgeous colorwork! I haven't done any of that for a long time. Just hanging out with basic stuff at the moment. Looking for the peacefulness within the knitting.
