Lorna Miser and Red Barn Yarns!!

Friday, April 29, 2011

I am so excited to have one of knitting's
"Super Stars" in the house!
Lorna Miser is the founder of Lorna's Laces,
which have been some of the
most
wonderful yarns on the market.

She sold the company a few years ago and now spends her time
designing, writing books and teaching workshops.

On Friday, April 29

We have the honor of having her at our
Arcadia location for the whole day!
She will be signing her books, we will host a luncheon
and then she will lead us in a workshop.

Red Barn Yarns

As if that is not enough, Catherine Petitti will be there with her
hand painted yarns and patterns for everyone
to see, touch, try on and of course purchase/order.

Here is the video from our last event with Catherine

Lorna's
Book Signing
from 10-12
Lorna's first book is a charming book that is almost an autobiographical knitting project book. Lorna invites us to join her on her self-discovery trip through knitting, friends and family. Each project has a wonderful story that
makes it more then just another project.

Lorna talks about something she knows a lot about. Knitting and using hand dyed yarns to their fullest potential. Hand dyed yarns are some of the most beautiful yarns in the shop. But knitting them up doesn't always turn out the way you envision them to.

Workshop:
Knitting with Hand Dyed Yarns

So many people are confused and disappointed and yet in love with these yarns. Lorna will be teaching us how to understand and learn about the yarns as well as techniques on how to use them.

Fall Retreat ~ La Quinta, Ca

Our spring retreat was last weekend. We where in a wonderful house, right on the PGA West Golf Course in La Quinta,Ca. The weather could not have been better for lounging, knitting, felting, eating, swimming, and relaxing with each other.
Enjoy the Photos

Day 1

started with a stop at Colors in Claremont Village. I love this shop.
You can tell from the outside that you are in for treat!

The shop is small, but has
so many wonderful yarns!
The girls working there where the best
with 14 of us raiding their space.
They where very helpful and again
what a great selection of Yarn.

Our Abode for the Weekend is Fabulous!!

We spent most of the weekend outside by the water.
Lots of great seatting.

Manning the Barbecue in the Dark on the first night.
Notice the OTT light?

Conversation, glass of wine and
a great Kitchen.

Day 2
Does it get any better?

This is what we looked at on the
other side of our bushes.

This is the PGA West gold course. It was closed for reseeding
so we were able to take our golf cart onto the golf course.

What an amazing Golf Course

Back at the Ranch
Enjoying the Table before the sun gets there
Jenny bought some needlefelting kits
and made a cute pig and cat!
Settling in for the Evening
Friday Night's dinner was a catered Taco Bar.
Rosa prepared it all for us and boy was it good.

Day 3

Saturday morning we Felted Soap.
That means we wrapped fleece around a bar of soap
and wet felted the fleece to cover it.
Once they are done you just use them
and the wool felt takes the place of a washcloth.
Here are some more ideas on etsy if you are curious.
Saturday afternoon some went on
another yarn crawl.
We went to Harriet's and the Yarn Co.

There is more then one way to find a soft seat

The knitting must be going well.
I am so lucky to have such a wonderful group of women to share the love of knitting with.
Thank you all for such a lovely weekend.
